Method 1: Calculate CGPA from Grades

This is the most common method used by Indian universities:

1. List all courses with their credit hours and grade points
2. Multiply each grade point by its credit hours (quality points)
3. Sum all quality points across all semesters
4. Divide by total credit hours

Example: You took 4 courses across 2 semesters:

• Math (4 credits): Grade A = 9 → Quality Points: 36
• Physics (3 credits): Grade B+ = 8 → Quality Points: 24
• English (3 credits): Grade A+ = 10 → Quality Points: 30
• Chemistry (4 credits): Grade B = 7 → Quality Points: 28

Example:

• Semester 1: SGPA 8.5, Credits 20
• Semester 2: SGPA 9.0, Credits 22
• Semester 3: SGPA 8.2, Credits 24

CGPA = (8.5×20 + 9.0×22 + 8.2×24) / (20+22+24) = (170 + 198 + 196.8) / 66 = 8.56

Using CBSE (÷9.5): If you scored 420 out of 500, Percentage = 84%, CGPA = 84/9.5 = 8.84

• CBSE: CGPA = Average of grade points in all subjects (each graded 1-10). Percentage = CGPA × 9.5
